Prakriti
Prakriti is your Ayurvedic birth constitution: your unique proportion of Vata, Pitta and Kapha, set at conception. Find out yours.
Prakriti literally means "primal nature" or "original creation" in Sanskrit. In Ayurveda, it is each person’s energetic identity card: the proportion of Vata, Pitta and Kapha, the three doshas, fixed at the moment of conception. It shapes body type, temperament, digestion and sleep — and it never changes, like the colour of your eyes.
The tradition describes seven possible combinations: three single-dosha constitutions (Vata, Pitta or Kapha dominant), three dual-dosha types (Vata-Pitta, Pitta-Kapha, Vata-Kapha) and the rare, balanced tridoshic constitution. Knowing your prakriti is not a personality quiz: it is the starting point for every Ayurvedic recommendation — diet, daily rhythm, herbs, seasons to watch.
A concrete example: two colleagues eat the same spicy lunch. The Pitta type walks away with heartburn, while the Kapha type finally feels awake. Same meal, opposite effects — because their prakriti differs. Be careful not to confuse it with vikriti, your current imbalance: few of us live in perfect accord with our birth nature.
