Description
In japa meditation (repeating a mantra), a clear sound helps you open and close the session without looking at the clock: strike the bowl, listen until the vibration fades, then begin. This small metal bowl, 7.8 cm across and 4.2 cm high, weighing about 150 g, is made for that use, on a desk or bedside table.
The outside is lacquered in colour with a gold band, and the inner base carries an engraved gold motif that differs by colour; patterns vary slightly from piece to piece. Given its size, it gives a high, fairly short tone, not the long deep resonance of a large hammered bowl.
To be clear about contents: the manufacturer’s packing list only mentions the bowl. The cushion seen in some photos and a mallet are not guaranteed; a wooden stick or the back of a wooden spoon is enough to make it ring. If you want a fuller sound, choose our 12 cm bowl, which comes with a mallet.
